Langkawi es un archipiélago de 99 islas en el mar de Andaman, en la costa noroeste de Malasia. Las islas son una parte del estado de Kedah, que es adyacente a la frontera con Tailandia.
Kedah es un estado bastante pequeño y frente a sus costas se encuentran las islas de Langkawi. La zona tiene la particularidad de ser llamada popularmente "el tazón de arroz de Malasia" ya que la ciudad posee numerosos campos de arroz.
Las playas y las islas de la zona son algunas de las más bellas en el Sudeste de Asia: arenas blancas que brillan a la luz de un brillante sol tropical con una suave brisa del mar: el paisaje es realmente hermoso.
Entre los sitios más interesantes para visitar de la zona se encuentran: el Valle Bujang (Lembah Bujang), un extenso sitio histórico ubicado en las estribaciones de Gunung Jerai. Es la zona arqueológica más rica en Malasia, un antiguo reino hindú-budista dictaminó aquí ya en 300 DC, además existen en la zona gran variedad de museos para visitar con gran contenido histórico.
Langkawi y Kedah es una bellísima zona que se destaca por sus paisajes naturales.
