We were very pleased with this choice. As with many hotels, I get the impression this has changed management and staff, but its website hasn't quite caught up (June 2009), but nonetheless we had a good quality of service.

Very well located for sightseeing in New York, but slightly away from the bustle of broadway / 5th Avenue. A generous room size, excellent bed, good bathroom. A quiet corridor - the building layout means there are ferwer rooms per corridor as you go higher, so you get less door-slamming etc. Good A/C. A very comfortable room all round.

There is no noise insulation between corridor and room, so any movement outside is clearly audible. Becuae we were on a quiet corridor this did not affect us, but I could see it being a problem for some visitors. Breakfast is ridiculously expensive - you can pick up really good breakfasts nearby. The hotel website has features that do not exist eg 'terrace with views'. None of the staff appeard to know about this advertised feature.

Walk east to United Nations building, 500 yards. Walk west to Grand Central and Times Square, passing some architectural beauties such as Chrysler building, News Building, Bryant Hotel. Take downtown buses from 2nd Ave adjacent to hotel to get to City Hall / Brooklyn Bridge, Take uptown buses from Lexington ave to get to Metropolitan Musem and Central Park, or take subway system from Grand Central to get places.

First we became a room with a queensize-bed. We were 3 and I had booked a 3-bed-room and already paid for this. Afterwards we complained and got a new room with a kingsize-bed and a pullout-sofa. The receptionists told us that we have to take whatever there is left. So that could also be a smoking room or whatever.. But when I booked, I never saw this information..?
