County Hotel Woodford

Well situated

The first room had a leaking shower, the second room was a little noisy with it facing the main road and being right next to the linen cupboard!

Epping Forest & easy access to London by bus & tube.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

It was cheap

The toilet in my room did not flush properly. The chair was broken. There was a function at the hotel on the Saturday evening and I could not find anywhere to park my car, so I had to sit outside until someone left.

Nice hotel in a pleasant location.

Half hour (pleasant) walk to South Woodford tube station.

For the price I don't think you can beat this hotel. A very comfortable staff and a pleasent environment.

Nice large and comfy room, but too pricey

The hotel and room were quite smart having been recently renovated (fresh paint still an obvious smell in the corridors), and it was comfortable and kept very clean. The setting is also great - in the middle of Epping Forest, but a 15 min walk or 5 min taxi to zone 4 tubes at Woodford/South Woodford, so can get to central London easily while having a peaceful place to retreat to when it all gets too much. Sadly, the staff seemed a little off-hand and unused to customer service! checking in went ok, although not vastly welcoming, until I tried to use the charge card I was given along with the room key - to be informed that I hadn't activated it at the front desk - why did they give it to me without activating it?! And why didn't they immediately apologise instead of somehow blaming me for this, until I pointed out that I was giving them valuable customer feedback? And the basic but reasonable food menu was misleading in that it did not continue to serve until 10pm as it said - when we tried to get hot food after a tiring day we found that only a few very manky sandwiches were on offer, together with the dregs of a packet of crisps. Definitely eat in town or in South Woodford rather than at the hotel. Breakfast was good, although they should invest in another toaster to speed things up for guests at times of high demand! And service was shall we say quirky - initial mistakes then over-compensated for. For the price and the cleanliness I would go back - just keep a sense of humour and no high expectations of service!

Very nice and clean hotel. I could recommend it to anyone. Peaceful location and friendly staff made our stay a relaxing experience!

My only complaint was that the room had burn marks on wall, on the two lampshades over the bed and large burn mark on carpet. Also, bedding was very worn and rough.
